Urban Seed Foundation is committed to ending food deserts and creating a sustainable model with all at-risk communities.
Urban Seed Foundation is working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food and information to make healthy decisions. We support community sustainability by advocating for consistent access to locally grown produce. In partnership with like-minded local organizations we create solutions which include improving food environments and teaching nutrition education in schools; working with local politicians to advocate for legislative action to advance urban agriculture; we provide grants to schools and organizations that install gardens in at-risk schools; we support fundraising efforts for student run farmer's markets and culinary demonstrations in neighborhoods that lack access to affordable produce.
Urban Seed Foundation is in service to our community members from the pre-natal stage through high school, and beyond. Our systematic and scalable approach to ending food deserts involves causing a critical change in the way people think about fresh food. We will create a sustainable lively food culture for at-risk neighborhoods in Las Vegas - and in doing so we will create the first model for any urban community to actually transform their food deserts into thriving food accessible communities.
Community benefits include community-member comraderie + New jobs + Increased revenue in local the economy + Increased potential for commercial revitalization + Capacity-building of community organizations and coalitions + More foot traffic in urban neighborhoods + Community public health and economic well-being.
Urban Seed Foundation’s launch is at an auspicious time in the farming industry. Our emergence into the Las Vegas scene is well coordinated with highly technological advancements in smart-farming. We are fortunate to have a committed long term partnership with smart-farmer Urban Seed Inc. (www.UrbanSeedInc.com), Las Vegas’ revolution in locally sourced produce. For the first time in history, an abundant volume of nutrient dense produce will be grown right in the heart of the city.
Innovation + locally produced food + committed action + community collaboration + legislative action + farmers markets + education = true sustainability.
